(Farasha means “butterfly” in Arabic)
Tears pour as we
Toss and turn
Sleep is futile as
They pillage and burn
Complacency is useless
We must rise for the oppressed
Firstly in night prayers
Begging for wrongs to be addressed
Then we use any means
At our disposal
Boycott, divest, sanction
Is our proposal
Yearning to comfort
We spend our time
Our money, our voices
To end this crime
Signing petitions
Attending protests
Some setting sail
And other worthy quests
Hearts still aching
Our voices roar
Will someone
Stop this war!!!
But nay! It’s a genocide!
False narratives
And misnomers
We won’t abide
They try to strip your dignity
But you’re the biggest heroes
The world
Will ever see!
Your love is so loud
That no one can deny
Even though it’s what
They try to shroud
Solid faith that never wanes
Steadfast determination and
Reliance on the One
Who ever reigns
Freedom rings
To heaven
To home
On iridescent wings
Victory will be yours
And you will fly free
Every farasha
From the river to the sea
