Gift Shop Standards
Artist’s creations are juried for their workmanship and creativity. We accept only high quality items that we feel will be received well by the public. It is important to us that your items sell.
Artists work will only be on display for a three month period unless sales of those items are exceptional. We would like artists to remove work that has not sold and replace it with new items on a regular basis. We want the public to return to the Lawrence house by providing the best items possible, and a constant renewal of items will help to accomplish this goal.
All art work shall be the ORIGINAL handcrafted work of the artisan. No work will be accepted if copied from the work of another artist. Work that is done in a class, from a kit, from a YouTube video or copied from a photograph (not the original work of the artist) will not be accepted.
Consider how your work will show best. Provide displays that will enhance your artwork and help the consumer see your pieces easily. The gallery will make every effort to display your work while not overcrowding the visual space.
Framing: We welcome framed and unframed canvases, and simple clean lines are best. If the work is designed to hang unframed, the sides must be painted for a tailored, finished look. Canvas wrapped pieces are more professional and more desirable if they are at least 1.5 inches in depth. Lower profile canvases are available at the dollar store and we would like to avoid that look. Additionally, a tired, outdated style of frame is not acceptable. Professional framing is best. Hand cut mats, old frames and ill fitting pieces of artwork will not be accepted.
Works will be inspected on delivery and must not be dented or scratched.
To be accepted, all work must be properly wired and ready to hang. Coated picture wire is recommended.
If a portrait, you must have the written permission of the person you have painted or photographed. It should be attached to the piece you are submitting.
Our best selling items tend to be in the gift range of $25.00 – $50.00 but we like to have a wide range of pricing in the gallery.
The following are some areas of interest that we would like to add to the gallery. Sculpture in wood, metal, clay or stone, Handmade soaps, Unique Bird Houses, Baskets, Hand Blown Glass, Fused glass, Wood Turning and Weaving. If these are not your mediums but you know of an artist who has any of these types of work please let them know that the Lawrence House Centre for the Arts might be a great venue to show their work.
