Sharon Ormerod - Earth Waves

Sharon was born in, what was at the time considered to be a rural area outside of Hamilton Ontario. She has fond memories of spending most of her early years outside in the country side. A graduate of McMaster University Studio Arts she went on to teach art in Hamilton and surrounding schools. In her early years as a Canadian artist, she was influenced by Lawren Harris and the Group of Seven and Emily Carr. Later her exposure to Theosophy through the society in Toronto and her art history studies lead her to Wassily Kandinsky and several other artists in the first part of the 20th. century who were striving to express the spiritual through art. In the last few years, Sharon has become well known as a plein aire painter, painting outside she feels its the best way to capture the power, energy and expression of the land. She brings these small studies back to the studio and uses them as inspiration for some of her larger works. Working in oils, acrylic and multimedia, her work varies from realism to abstract. Sharon now resides full time in Sarnia and has a studio space from which she continues to work. Lawren Harris had been hugely influential in the Toronto art scene and gave lectures at the Toronto Theosophical Society expounding the presence of the One spiritual expression of energy and consciousness and how it could be expressed.
