Winners of Second Annual Carmen Ziolkowski Poetry Prize
First prize, $500, donated by Carmen’s family, is awarded to Sarnia’s Margie Kenedy, a retired archeologist who recently moved to Sarnia. Kenedy’s poem “Fusion – An Immigration Story” resonated with the judges, and Jim Ziolkowski remarked, “The story is very similar to my mother’s story of an immigrant to Canada, and she would have liked that.”
Second prize, $250, is awarded to Toronto writer Silvia Falsaperla for her dramatic portrayal of art and nature in “Caravaggesque”; and third prize, $100, is awarded to Thunder Bay writer Marianne Jones for her flow in depictions of
water and writing in “Water World.”
Honourable Mentions are awarded to Josie Di Sciascio-Andrews, a writer and educator from Oakville, for her memorable details in “First Communion” and to Caroline Morgan Di Giovanni, a Toronto poet, for her well-defined considerations of
nature and poetry in “Daffodil.”
